About Beta Round Up
The History of Beta Theta Pi Round Up The origins of Round Up trace back to the days of the Aggie Cowboys. On the last night of formal recruitment, the active Cowboys took prospective members out to a rodeo arena and had the “future Cowboys” wrestle steers and ride small bulls. In the late 90’s Beta Theta Pi decided to return to its Aggie Cowboy roots and bring back Round Up. This time the event, which featured a calf scramble, a greased pig contest, semi-pro bull riding and live Texas country music, raised money for philanthropic efforts. The first year, crowds of close 5,000 people came out to Snook to see the likes of Roger Creager, Robert Earl Keen and Jerry Jeff Walker making it a huge success.
Beta Round Up in 2011! This year the Aggie Betas return to tradition once again, reviving our philanthropy event of
Beta Round Up. All money raised will go to the support of our wounded Veterans. With recent events highlighting the inadequate assistance and underfunding for returning soldiers, our wounded Veterans are in desperate need of proper care and assistance to adapt to new parameters once they return home. All proceeds from this event will support Helping a Hero, an organization which in the past year presented a new home to a Texas A&M graduate, Captain Daniel Moran, USMC (Ret.) who was injured while serving overseas in Iraq.
This event will have a real rodeo feel, featuring a greased pig contest, barbeque, and bull riding by
area amateurs. The highlight of the afternoon will be a Texas Country Music artist not yet determined and a Calf Scramble featuring girls from a wide spectrum of Texas A&M student organizations who will compete for over $300 in prizes. Beta has dedicated committee members who are determined to make Roundup a huge success.
Our chapter is very excited about this new event and its purpose -a chance to give back to the men and women who have so bravely served our country. We are seeking support from the Texas A&M and Bryan/ College Station communities, as well as parents and Alumni, to reach our goal of $10,000. With your help we are confident that our 1st Annual Beta Roundup will be a success.
